Man United Round-Up: Leading race for Portuguese striker, Hunt for Belgian midfielder, Brazilian defender on the radar

Man United are planning a £25m offer for Benfica centre-forward Goncalo Ramos in winter. Portugal international was on the radar of both PSG and Newcastle United while Southampton were understood to have made a club-record offer to sign the centre-forward.

Following the departure of Nunez, who joined Liverpool for £85m, Goncalo has made a fine start to filling that void up front, having scored eight times in 12 matches, also laying on five assists. That form has attracted interest from Man United, with the Red Devils officials now making contact with Ramos’ representatives.

The report claims Benfica value the 21-year-old centre-forward at £25m, a fee Man United are unlikely to go beyond after their summer spending which totalled over £200m. However, there is an acceptance at Man United that another forward option is required after the Red Devils failed to bring in another striker in the summer.

Martial was ready to occupy the leading role up front after a fantastic pre-season but hamstring and achilles injuries have limited him to only 45 minutes of action.

Rashford has been tasked with leading the line in place, scoring three times so far this campaign but he too has also picked up a knock, leaving 37-year-old Ronaldo as their only recognised option up front. Man United take on Man City at the Etihad Stadium following the international break when they hope to have Rashford available once again.

Erik ten Hag reportedly wants Man United to pursue a transfer deal for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans in winter. The 25-year-old midfielder is emerging as one of several possible Red Devils targets for winter, as he could be a tempting option for Man United as he’ll be heading towards the final few months of his deal.

It’s worth noting that that could mean it’s worth waiting a bit longer to add Youri on a free transfer in the summer, but the Red Devils might also feel it’s worth trying to add him in the middle of this campaign for a price that would likely be well below his true market value.

Tielemans has shone during his time at Leicester City, and he may well feel that he’s now ready to challenge himself at a bigger team. The Red Devils could do with more depth in midfield, and the Dutch coach may well see someone like the Belgian as an upgrade on the likes of McTominay and Fred, who have been inconsistent for a while now.

Man United are said to be monitoring Belgium international’s current situation, with the midfielder’s deal expiring in 2023. Since moving to Leicester City in 2019 in a deal worth £40.5m, the Belgian midfielder has made 50 goal contributions in 166 matches, helping the Foxes win the 2021 FA Cup.

The former Monaco midfielder featured for the Foxes in the 1-0 defeat against Erik ten Hag’s side earlier this month, with Sancho scoring the only goal of the match in the 23rd minute.

Man United enter the battle for 21-year-old Ligue 1 defender

Man United are ready to rival Barcelona for the signing of Monaco right-back Vanderson. Despite Barcelona and the Red Devils both having approaches rejected during the summer transfer window, both teams will return next year to try and add the Brazilian defender.

The report claims that Les Monegasques would be more open to selling the Brazilian in 2023, but the Blaugrana were quoted nearly £50m during the summer. Dalot has had an impressive start to the campaign for the Red Devils under the Dutch manager, but bringing in more competition for the defender can only be healthy.

Dalot has shown signs of inconsistency in the past, so signing the 21-year-old defender to push him and rotate with him would be smart business. This would potentially spell the end of Wan-Bissaka’s career at Man United, with the ex-Crystal Palace defender struggling to break into the starting eleven so far this campaign.

The Catalan club reportedly wanted the South American defender to replace Sergino Dest, and with Xavi Hernandez failing to secure another target during the summer, they could once again pursue the defender in the coming months. Vanderson left Gremio and moved to France in the winter transfer window.

Last term, he scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists in all tournaments and helped the team keep 7 clean sheets. At Man United, it is clear that the new coach, Erik ten Hag, does not rate Wan-Bissaka. The English defender has warmed the bench under Erik ten Hag and so far, he has only featured for 4 minutes in the PL.
