Liverpool are interested in signing Florentino Luis from Benfica. The report claims the Merseyside giants have had exploratory negotiations with the Primeira giants for the 23-year-old midfielder as the German manager eyes fundamental changes to that area of his squad.
The Reds have had problems with a proper midfield setup this campaign. Keita and Thiago had injury struggles earlier this campaign. But while the latter is back, there are still problems with their form. Fabinho and Henderson have failed to hit their usual heights, while Carvalho and Elliott are very young to deal with the pressure.
The Reds did bring in Arthur late in the window, but the South American midfielder has since suffered an injury that will keep him out for months. The solutions to revamping the midfield may not sufficiently arrive in January, and the German manager may have to wait until the summer to bring viable solutions.
The Reds are keeping a close watch on Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez and Florentino Luis. The Reds reportedly held exploratory contacts for the latter, with a considerable release clause worth a reported €120m being embedded in his contract. The figure is steep, and Liverpool may not pay up.
So they will undoubtedly negotiate to bring it down to a reasonable level. The Portuguese midfielder has not been a regular at Benfica until this campaign. After promising loans at Monaco and Getafe in the last two years, Luis has formed a solid partnership with Enzo Fernandez in the Benfica midfield, featuring in all 17 games this campaign.
