Liverpool in pole position to sign €35m-rated Spain international

Marcos Llorente is a target for Jurgen Klopp, who has asked Liverpool hierarchy to loosen the purse strings for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.

Spain international has been a crucial figure for Los Colchoneros since joining the club and Diego Simeone will not want to lose the midfielder in an ideal world but the La Liga giants are under tremendous financial pressure and they will be forced to sell some footballers in order to balance the books.

Atletico Madrid recently crashed out of the Champions League and that has compounded further misery for them. Meanwhile, the Reds’ interest in signing a midfielder is no surprise. They have had major problems in the middle of the park this campaign and the German manager must look to bring in a quality midfielder as a top priority.

Henderson is past his peak and Milner is in the twilight stages of his career as well. The likes of Keita and Thiago have been extremely injury prone and Fabinho is badly out of form. Liverpool need to invest heavily into their midfield and they have been linked with players like Jude Bellingham as well.

Marcos would be an excellent signing in theory. Llorente can play as a central midfielder, as a box-to-box midfielder and as a second striker. His versatility will be an asset for Jurgen Klopp. The 27-year-old midfielder works hard off the ball and is an impressive presser.
