Chelsea are hoping to complete a double raid on Leipzig by bringing in both Christopher Nkunku, who has already signed a pre-contract deal and one his team-mates. The Blues appear to have won the battle to add the 24-year-old attacker, with the forward already having undergone a secret medical and agreed terms.
The Blues will pay a figure in excess of Christopher’s £52.5m release clause, which only becomes active next summer and have moved early in order to beat off the competition. There is a pre-contract agreement already in place and Nkunku will make the switch to Chelsea at the end of the current campaign.
But France international is not the only RB Leipzig footballer Chelsea are interested in signing, with the London club also chasing Josko Gvardiol throughout the summer transfer window.
RB Leipzig were adamant the defender was not for sale and managed to convince Croatia international to sign a deal extension, but, as with Nkunku, it included a release clause that can be triggered next summer.
The London giants are hoping to secure deals for both footballers in advance of next summer and will again likely pay slightly more than Josko’s release clause, which stands at £43.6m.
Although Chelsea spent big to sign Fofana and Koulibaly in the summer, there are still concerns over the back-line, particularly with Thiago Silva and Azpilicueta in the twilight of their careers.
