Chelsea are looking to add Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde in the summer of 2023. U21 Spain international has struggled to break into the Blaugrana starting eleven recently due to competing with Marcos Alonso and Jordi Alba. The London giants are considering making a €15m bid to add Alejandro.
A move away from the Catalan club will be best for his development, whether that be on loan or permanently. Balde is still just 18 years old, but playing regular football will be important in order for him to gain experience and improve. La Liga giants are thought to be making signing the Spaniard to a new deal a priority in the near future.
Seeing the Blues linked with the 18-year-old defender isn’t a surprise, considering how often they’ve been targeting younger footballers under Todd Boehly. The Blues brought in a host of teenagers to boost the academy, and also made a late bid to add Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
The likes of Omari Hutchinson and Zak Sturge, amongst others, have also been brought in with a view to the future, and a young coach such as Graham Potter could be the right man to give these footballers their first-team chances when they are set.
The Spanish defender spent time in Espanyol’s youth academy before moving to Barcelona at the age of eight, and he made his first-team debut for the Blaugrana last term. In total, Balde has played 12 times for Barcelona, and he was recently hailed by Xavi for his performances in the early stages of this campaign.
