Arsenal keeping tabs with €20m-rated Primeira Liga defender

Man City are interested in Benfica left-back Alejandro Grimaldo who also has attracted interest from Newcastle and Arsenal. Man City’s have a compact defensive lineup but the absence of an experienced name on the left side of the back-line has complicated Pep Guardiola’s decision-making.

Cancelo has mostly filled in the left-back department while Ake has also deputised in some matches. The coach does have a left-back in Sergio Gomez but the 22-year-old defender is still acclimatising to the manager’s playing style and might need some more time to get used to his system.

Alejandro’s deal is up for expiry next summer and the Eagles might agree to a cut-price deal in winter to avoid losing him for free. Having risen through the Barcelona academy Pep Guardiola would be well versed in his potential and should approve a transfer.

Juventus have also been in touch with his entourage and are ready to make a formal offer for Grimaldo. The Spanish manager wants more competition in the squad and will intensify his search for a new left-back. Arsenal have defied all the odds this season and are leading the PL table after 12 matches.

Man City have already shown they can attract the big names as they did with Haaland in the summer. The reigning English champions are a force to reckon with and their superior display in recent times could tempt the Spanish defender to test himself under strict conditions in the PL.
